Chicago

Greg Nance, Chicago ’11, completed a Fastest Known Time (FKT) for running source to sea along the Mississippi River from Aug. 20-Oct. 30, 2025. He ran the Great River Road scenic byway from the headwaters of the river in Lake Itasca, Minnesota, to the Gulf of Mexico in Venice, Louisiana. The run was over 2,000 miles (about five million steps). Through his run, he hoped to spark nation-wide conversation about youth mental health and connected with news outlets and youth organizations along the way.

Brother Nance holds 58 Fastest Known Times, including a 3,156-mile run from the Puget Sound to Mt. Rainier. The ultra marathon runner has also completed the World Marathon Challenge. He is the current Representative of the 23rd Legislative District in the Washington state legislature.


Florida

Brother Ed Book, Florida ’84, retired from 40 years of public safety service in summer 2025. He spent 26 years with the Gainesville Police Department and the last 14 years of his career with the Santa Fe College Police Department (SFPD), where he served as Chief. His retirement announcement came on the heels of SFPD winning the Rocky Pomerance Law Enforcement Excellence Award, an award it also won in 2012. The award recognizes innovation within community safety, and Santa Fe College is one of only two higher education institutions to have won the award.

In honor of his service, Santa Fe College has officially named the Santa Fe College Emergency Operations Center the "Chief Ed Book Emergency Operations Center." Brother Book also serves on the Gainesville City Commission following his election as a commissioner in 2022.

Roger Austin, Florida ’79, was recognized by the University of Florida Student Government Association with the C. Arthur Sandeen Award, which recognizes a UF faculty member whose efforts and service have made the University of Florida better for all students.

In summer 2025, Bryan Griffin, Florida ’10, was appointed by the governor to lead Visit Florida. In this role, he now oversees the organization’s mission to market the state of Florida to visitors nationally and internationally. He had previously served as Communications Director in the Executive Office of the Governor.

Ohio

In December 2025, Brother Mike Wells, Ohio ’88, was elected to the Ohio University Alumni Association Board of Directors. Brother Wells is a Board-certified Internal Medicine physician and has spent most of his practicing career with the Pioneer Physicians Network. As an attending physician at Summa Health Systems in Akron, Ohio, Dr. Wells received several outstanding teaching awards.

Washington State

Brother Chuck Arnold, Washington State ’93, is adding another Super Bowl ring to his jewelry collection. Brother Arnold has served as the President of the Seattle Seahawks and First & Goal, Inc. since 2018 and has spent three decades with the Seahawks organization. Seattle won Super Bowl LX in February 2026 and Super Bowl XLIX in February 2014. Players, coaches, executives and other essential personnel from the winning team receive Super Bowl rings each year.

Western Ontario

Michael Daley, Western Ontario ’05, received a Goderich Citizenship Award from the town of Goderich, Ontario, along with others on the Goderich Remuneration Task Force and Goderich Memorial Arena Task Force. The Remuneration Task Force helped recommend fair and sustainable compensation for the mayor and town council, while the Memorial Arena Task Force explored the future of the arena as a multi-use community facility. 

DU Entrepreneurs

No matter where you look, you can find a DU doing something great. Across the globe, DU brothers have created their own businesses and are using skills learned through DU to propel themselves to success.

Chris Ellis, Washington ’99

Brother Chris Ellis published his book "Resilient Citizens: The People, Perils, and Politics of Modern Preparedness” in November 2025. The book covers disaster preparedness and resiliency in America and around the world. It traces the psychology, history and controversy of "preppers" and explains that the rationality of governments preparing applies to citizens as well (www.ResilientCitizens.com). The book can be purchased through a number of online and in-store retailers.

Brother Ellis holds a Ph.D. in Government from Cornell University, along with advanced degrees covering public policy, military strategy, and international security. A career Army officer, he continues to serve in the U.S. military and has conducted hundreds of disaster exercises, presentations, conferences, and real-world responses across the globe.
