Kilmer, Borton and Moore Honored with AFA Distinguished service Awards

Sept. 20, 2017 - Jason Kilmer, Washington ’91, and DU staff members Noah Borton and Veronica Moore will be recognized with Sue Kraft Fussell Distinguished Service Awards from the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA).

The Sue Kraft Fussell Distinguished Service Award recognizes individuals who have exhibited outstanding achievements in one or more of the following areas: service to AFA; programming and/or service that reaches beyond the recipient's campus/organization; development and research activities; and/or service to the college and fraternity/sorority communities.

Dr. Jason R. Kilmer, Washington ’91, supports fraternity and sorority life through his dual work at the University of Washington. Jason splits his time between the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and Health & Wellness in Student Life, allowing him to advance research on prevention within fraternities and sororities and to work directly with students through presentations and education. Through his work with Pi Kappa Phi, he helped to implement the Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP). This program is now in use by a number of organizations, and Jason continues to facilitate the program and train volunteers.

Noah Borton serves DU as the Senior Director of Educational Programs where he has developed or advanced programming including our Associate Member Education Program, Delta Upsilon Emerging Leaders Experience, Membership Outcomes Assessment, and more. Prior to joining the DU staff, Noah was a campus professional at Eastern Michigan University, and his impact can still be felt in many of its programs. Noah has served on the AFA Board of Directors and is currently co-editor if its Perspectives magazine.

Veronica Moore serves DU as Director of Educational Programs where she oversees the implementation and planning of Delta Upsilon educational programs. She also serves the North-American Interfraternity Conference staff as its Director of Emerging & Culturally-Based Fraternal Initiatives. Prior to these roles, Veronica was the Associate Director of Student Activities at Temple University. Throughout her career, she has dedicated much of her time and talents to AFA. She served on the AFA Foundation, on the AFA Board of Directors, and as Region 1 Director. Veronica made AFA history by becoming the first African American elected to serve as the AFA President. She is also a 2014 recipient of DU's William H.P. Faunce Interfraternalism Award.

These awards will be presented at the AFA Annual Meeting, Dec. 2, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Two others associated with Delta Upsilon will be recognized with AFA awards this year. Kaye Schendel, Director of Global Initiatives, will receive the 2017 Jack L. Anson Award. Mindy Sopher, a long-time DU friend and volunteer, will receive 2017 Robert H. Shaffer Award.
